FREE Rice!

At OCSI we want to equip students to impact the world for God. I hope that all students do their best academically and develop a sense of compassion for others. To that end, I introduced the students to freerice.com today.

Freerice.com is a wonderful educational site that also serves another purpose. Students (or anyone!) can answer questions on various subjects in a multiple-choice test format. For each correct answer, the sponsors of freerice.com will donate 10 grains of rice to the World Food Programme to help end world hunger. This is actual food being given to actual people who desperately need help! Just for answering questions correctly!

There is a link to freerice.com at the top of this page and I have created a group called mrcarpenter2016 that students may join. Parental permission is required for children under the age of 14 to sign up for the website. However, there is nothing objectionable on freerice.com and I have selected topics for the students that are appropriate for what they are learning. These topics are English Vocabulary, Multiplication Table, Basic Math (pre-algebra), World Landmarks, Identify Countries on the Map, World Capitals, and Flags of the World. I do feel that the students will benefit from extra practice of basic Math, English and Geography facts. Please feel free to check the site. I hope every student will receive permission to sign up.

Many of the students seemed very excited both to see how high they could raise the level of their questions and to donate actual food to needy people. This is especially powerful since it gives students a means to help others when they are at an age when they do not have money to donate.

I am excited to see how much we can donate this school year!
